A lil bit of this and a lil bit of that

OMG! Marks and Sparks have got a half and half loaf.

Half white bread and half wholemeal!

Yes it is a slow news day, but guys how amazing is it.

Mother brought it into the house a coupla days ago and I'm so happy! Hope it makes a regular appearance in my mother's shopping bag. It's hard being a wholemeal eater in a white bread household, but this makes it fair.

I've been influenced

So I've been doing my lil Hollyoaks catchup catchup and through all the subliminal product placement; I now have a new item added to my Xmas wish list. Wait for it...

A Nokia Lumia

Nokia

Dude how 'cool' do they look, it actually makes me want one over an iPhone.

Gasp, I know I bet you can't believe I just said that, me a glorified iPhone wanter (if I can use that as a word, actually fudge it, I'll use it as a word); has just said that they would buy a Nokia Lumia over an iPhone. Wow. They really have infiltrated my buying mind.

But like I keep saying I am a marketing person's best friend. I'm the consumer they target.

I feel like eating on the toilet today

Yes I did say that and yes you did hear me correctly.

There's a bathroom themed restaurant located in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan called Modern Toilet; where you sit on unworking toilet seats and eat over sink-tables. You drink from mini plastic urinals and eat out of plastic toilets, its sooo cool.

And for dessert a special helping of this...

Handy Household Tip

Here's a handy tidbit for you lovely lot.

If your cylinder vacuum cleaner has limited suction you may need to check it for blockage.

To check for a blockage in the hose; first remove it from the vacuum cleaner and then drop a large coin through it. Don't use as a pen as it will most likely get stuck if there is a blockage. If the coin doesn't fall all the way through then yup you have it, there's a blockage.

It's so simple to clear, just use a mop or broom head to push it up towards the handgrip and voila blockage annihilated.

Writers Row

They say that the skin that you are in defines who you are. So I took a knife and tried to claw away that definition  I let the knife trail down me and inch through layers but no blood came. Inside I saw blurred visions of red. Yet still no blood came. My skin was on fire, heat sore through me. Yet still no blood came. Voices pounded down on me, pleading me to slice deeper, cut harder. Yet still no blood came. Perforations puckered where the silver metal danced. Yet still no blood came. The voices got stronger demands more brutal. I fell into their spell until I was lost. The knife printing the lyrics to the song of my soul. Crimson petals adorned my body, washing me, encasing me. The scars are constant reminders that I hold the key to my destiny. That I have control.

And the Blue Reigns On

Yes we can 2012!

Last night was a mad rush of craziness. The way my eyes are burning from staying transfixed to my screen all night (well I say all night, I took a lil nap between the hours of 3-4). I literally went to bed at 7:30 this morning, the same time the rest of my house had began to start there day.

But I am so happy, Obama's back in the White House for 4 more years and it's such a good feeling. I've literally had a big grin on my face all day, constantly checking social networks and other websites to see what the general consensus on such a magnanimous win was.

However, it wasn't all smiles for me last night/this morning. I'm telling you at the start of the results when Obama was on 3 votes and Mitt was racing ahead at 49, I thought frack, this is it, the apocalypse is true. I'm not gonna lie I was already putting my defeatist cap on and looking for other signs for the end of the world, when suddenly Obama's votes leaped up and I was like yuuuup we're back in the game.

Wowaweewaa what a roller-coaster it was, I was literally on 3 websites watching the interactive map of America turn from 52 shades of grey, to a mixture of blue and red. It seriously felt like I was watching a game of football. Every time, one side seemed to be making a massive progression, the other side would suddenly creep up. I swear I was on tender hooks the whole time, the suspense was way too much for me. I tried to put my focus on other things (like catching up with MTV's The Valley's or attempting to do 150 walking lunges) but I kept being dragged back in. It felt way too important to do other things, like sleep. Even after Obama had been announced the winner, I stayed loyal to the cause. Begging and praying that Mitt Romney would hurry up and concede (a new word I have learnt from this election) so I could rest my sore swollen eyes, but wait I did.

CBS
What made me laugh about Mr 47% himself, was that this dude was way to confident that he would win, that he hadn't even prepared a speech. On Twitter many were like kudos to Romney for such a good concession speech, but I beg to differ. I felt it really didn't have that much of an impact, and what was with all the 'I'm praying for the president' malarkey, can you say sore loser or what. He probably spent the time that he kept us all waiting, to quickly put it together.

I felt that this time round President Obama's speech was way more powerful and inspiring (and somewhat more realistic). His words

"It doesn't matter whether you're black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you're willing to try..."

had such an impact on my heartstrings, I felt the familiar shiver travel through my body when he said those words. Inspired!

Some might question why I was so deeply affected as I'm a non-American and this was not my election, but America is such a powerful state and we must remember that whatever they do, has a ripple affect across the globe, especially in the West. So I am so proud that Americans did good by us and voted in the better option.

Viva la Obama! #4moreyears

Young Adult Mini Review

Okay, so I know this is an oldie, but I don't really get round to watching certain films so I've decided to dedicate small parts of my free-time to catching up on some; so you might see a few more oldie mini reviews floating around on this here blog.

This film was so not what I expected it to be, maybe if I had watched the trailer I might have got some sense of what it was actually about. I totally thought it was gonna be on the same track as 13 Going on 30 (which I also have not seen).

Mavis Gary, a thirty-something ghost writer for a fading young adult fiction series; decides to return home to a small town in Minnesota to win back her married high school sweetheart (who has also just had a baby), you can only imagine the chaos that ensues; cue to many cringey moments where you just wanted her to close her mouth, get back into her Mini Cooper and go home.

It was an alrightish film, but it wasn't really for me. I found it to be quite slow at times and found certain moments too much to watch (in the is she really gonna do this sense). However, the build up of the friendship with former classmate Matt gave the film some redeeming qualities.

Precious: A True Story

Yesterday I had to oppourtunity to go and meet Precious Williams, the author of Precious (not  to be confused with the film that was based on the book titled Push), at an Author event at Canada Water Library as part of their Black History Month celebrations.

Anyway, it was such an amazing experience, I was able to relate to a lot of the things she talked about as I am too an export of private fostering within an interracial family. I left wanting to find out so much more about my own beginnings and having so many questions about myself that I need answering.

I have always had issues with my identity, and hearing Precious' story made me confident, that at some-point in this journey of mine, I will one day feel comfortable with who I am.

It also made me feel so much closer to my own foster parents, it made me thankful that the bond I had with them was so strong and I thank them every day for giving me the unconditional love that they had for me and the amazing start I had in life and for playing a major part in the person I am today.

I want to thank Precious Williams, for writing this book and letting other people like me know that we are not alone.

I urge you all to read this book.

Rant of the Day

Google

I am at the end of my tether, this phone of mine actually wants to kill me. I literally had to stop myself launching it across my bedroom today. I am so maaaaaad right now. I had to take deep breaths and count to 150, because I am literally at my wits end. I remember our school counsellor told us in PHSE, that if we ever felt angry we should take deep breaths and count to 10; but after the first 50 I still felt like going on a rampage so I carried on.

Oh this phone, this phone, that I started to love and treat like my own child has betrayed me. It has gone one step further than making me seem like a village idiot and refusing to use its space bar;  it has committed the ultimate sacrilegious,  it has decided that it no longer wants to function as a phone and has decided to act like a spoilt little brat and refuse to unlock itself.

Oh technology how you have failed me. Me and you used to be best friends. How and what have I done to wrong you? What have I done? We used to be partners in crime, like two peas in a pod. I would spend my days idly researching you and updating my mind with your new inventions. So why? Why have you done this to me? Is it because I got poorer, started being serious with my money and not splashing out on you, is that why you decided  to turn on me.

I make a vow from this day forward that I will never again own a Blackberry. I have always said it, I have always said that Blackberry's were shyte. I have always said that I will never, ever buy a Blackberry because they break (and thank God I never did buy one, this useless piece of junk was donated to me buy the Mother), and what happens, I'm stuck with a phone that doesn't type with a space bar and has me typing.like.an.idiot, volume doesn't work and now, the keypad has suddenly decided 'oh I'm not going to do the job I was invented to' so I am now unable to unlock my phone. And cue more bad luck, I can't seem to find my USB so I can't connect it to my computer. Great just flipping Great!

A word of advice my dear readers, if you ever find yourself in a phone shop and contemplating on whether to buy a blackberry or not, go with the latter and save your pockets and your sanity.

Keeping Up With the X

According to reports, Khloe Kardashian has been confirmed  to co-host X Factor USA, alongside Saved by the Bell Alumni Mario Lopez.

Google
My thoughts on this; hmm, to be honest although I'm not aboard the Kardashian love train, I'm not upset by this news. On the odd occasion that I have watched an episode of Keeping Up With, I've always said that Khloe was my favourite. She seems more real and down to earth and way more likeable than the others. I must admit for a hot minute I was even following her on Twitter, till my timeline kept getting flooded with Tweets about her 'Lammy' (we get it Khloe you love your husband).

So if these rumours are true, I hope she does well.

Skins Returns!

Okay, so maybe just for three episodes.

The episodes entitled Skins Pure, Skins Rise and Skins Fire, will focus on former Skins characters Cassie, Cook and Effie.

Though I have now come to an age where I no longer have much interest in this show, it's nice to have a little catch-up with past characters, so I may give this a watch when it hits our screens in 2013
