Writers Row

They say that the skin that you are in defines who you are. So I took a knife and tried to claw away that definition  I let the knife trail down me and inch through layers but no blood came. Inside I saw blurred visions of red. Yet still no blood came. My skin was on fire, heat sore through me. Yet still no blood came. Voices pounded down on me, pleading me to slice deeper, cut harder. Yet still no blood came. Perforations puckered where the silver metal danced. Yet still no blood came. The voices got stronger demands more brutal. I fell into their spell until I was lost. The knife printing the lyrics to the song of my soul. Crimson petals adorned my body, washing me, encasing me. The scars are constant reminders that I hold the key to my destiny. That I have control.

And the Blue Reigns On

Yes we can 2012!

Last night was a mad rush of craziness. The way my eyes are burning from staying transfixed to my screen all night (well I say all night, I took a lil nap between the hours of 3-4). I literally went to bed at 7:30 this morning, the same time the rest of my house had began to start there day.

But I am so happy, Obama's back in the White House for 4 more years and it's such a good feeling. I've literally had a big grin on my face all day, constantly checking social networks and other websites to see what the general consensus on such a magnanimous win was.

However, it wasn't all smiles for me last night/this morning. I'm telling you at the start of the results when Obama was on 3 votes and Mitt was racing ahead at 49, I thought frack, this is it, the apocalypse is true. I'm not gonna lie I was already putting my defeatist cap on and looking for other signs for the end of the world, when suddenly Obama's votes leaped up and I was like yuuuup we're back in the game.

Wowaweewaa what a roller-coaster it was, I was literally on 3 websites watching the interactive map of America turn from 52 shades of grey, to a mixture of blue and red. It seriously felt like I was watching a game of football. Every time, one side seemed to be making a massive progression, the other side would suddenly creep up. I swear I was on tender hooks the whole time, the suspense was way too much for me. I tried to put my focus on other things (like catching up with MTV's The Valley's or attempting to do 150 walking lunges) but I kept being dragged back in. It felt way too important to do other things, like sleep. Even after Obama had been announced the winner, I stayed loyal to the cause. Begging and praying that Mitt Romney would hurry up and concede (a new word I have learnt from this election) so I could rest my sore swollen eyes, but wait I did.

CBS
What made me laugh about Mr 47% himself, was that this dude was way to confident that he would win, that he hadn't even prepared a speech. On Twitter many were like kudos to Romney for such a good concession speech, but I beg to differ. I felt it really didn't have that much of an impact, and what was with all the 'I'm praying for the president' malarkey, can you say sore loser or what. He probably spent the time that he kept us all waiting, to quickly put it together.

I felt that this time round President Obama's speech was way more powerful and inspiring (and somewhat more realistic). His words

"It doesn't matter whether you're black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you're willing to try..."

had such an impact on my heartstrings, I felt the familiar shiver travel through my body when he said those words. Inspired!

Some might question why I was so deeply affected as I'm a non-American and this was not my election, but America is such a powerful state and we must remember that whatever they do, has a ripple affect across the globe, especially in the West. So I am so proud that Americans did good by us and voted in the better option.

Viva la Obama! #4moreyears

Young Adult Mini Review

Okay, so I know this is an oldie, but I don't really get round to watching certain films so I've decided to dedicate small parts of my free-time to catching up on some; so you might see a few more oldie mini reviews floating around on this here blog.

This film was so not what I expected it to be, maybe if I had watched the trailer I might have got some sense of what it was actually about. I totally thought it was gonna be on the same track as 13 Going on 30 (which I also have not seen).

Mavis Gary, a thirty-something ghost writer for a fading young adult fiction series; decides to return home to a small town in Minnesota to win back her married high school sweetheart (who has also just had a baby), you can only imagine the chaos that ensues; cue to many cringey moments where you just wanted her to close her mouth, get back into her Mini Cooper and go home.

It was an alrightish film, but it wasn't really for me. I found it to be quite slow at times and found certain moments too much to watch (in the is she really gonna do this sense). However, the build up of the friendship with former classmate Matt gave the film some redeeming qualities.
